Title: Outreach Provider Skills: Building Competencies for Lifelong Impact

Abstract: Being an outreach provider fosters skill development in many areas that benefit a career and a provider's community throughout a lifetime. Skills in conducting a needs assessment, developing interpersonal relationships, communication, program development, program evaluation, and more allow professionals to continue to grow as clinicians while influencing community or administrative change in various settings beyond UCCCs.

This program will highlight the importance of these skills, drawing from seasoned outreach professionals working in administrative roles and diverse settings such as private practice, academic medicine, teaching, and community mental health. The presenters will draw upon a previously published article on outreach competencies, applying a social justice and trauma-inclusive lens to explore selected skills. In addition, the program will discuss the β€œart of convening” and the creative process of fostering productive, open, and transparent spaces.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe transferable skills developed through outreach program engagement.
  • Review skills in connection with published outreach competencies and a social justice and trauma-inclusive lens.
  • Explore various community settings where outreach provider skills have been beneficial for clinicians.
  • Discuss approaches to emphasize outreach skill development for further buy-in for outreach engagement.

Title: Sustainable Structures in Outreach and Prevention

Abstract: This presentation will cover sustainable structures in outreach and prevention within higher education mental health facilities. The presenters will cover serving students with cultural humility while maintaining enduring systems for outreach delivery. Topics will include training programs, peer education and staffing structures that support the successful delivery of outreach mental health and well-being services.

Consistent, scalable and impactful services that are measurable are part of best practices and will be discussed. Participants will be encouraged to take information and apply to their unique needs within their counseling centers and other systems. Finally, working within all stakeholders including academic affairs and student support services will be considered as a mainstay to providing effective prevention efforts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply information for the development and revisions to their own outreach structures.
  • Connect with fellow outreach professionals for continued evaluation and program development.
  • Gain knowledge and skill development for culturally responsive outreach across changing demographics and current sociopolitical demands.

Title: Strategic Outreach in Practice: Tools, Frameworks, and Community Interventions

Abstract: This session, building on the Strategic Outreach webinar offered earlier this year, will review tangible and pragmatic examples and tools of outreach activities to help you develop community-level interventions as part of your outreach efforts. Relying on outreach that is built on evidence-based practices, we will review sample frameworks to guide your efforts, as well as various tools to help translate the clinical expertise of counseling centers.

This session will also introduce some more specific objectives to consider as you engage in Strategic Outreach on your campus.

Learning Objectives:

  • List specific themes or issues on their campus where mental health and other endeavors specific to college settings often intersect.
  • Generate at least 2 activities on their campus where counseling center outreach supports the priorities of their center, Student Affairs aims, and/or the overall institution mission.
  • Identify key communities or constituents that can play a role in advancing a counseling center's narrative of campus mental health.
