Mentorship

AUCCCO Mentorship Program

The AUCCCO Mentorship Program’s goals include creating opportunities for AUCCCO members to feel more supported in their outreach administrative roles, to advocate for outreach professionals in our field, and to increase diversity within outreach administration. AUCCCO members who participate in the program will get paired up with a mentor who has experience in a particular area of interest or growth. These pairs will work together throughout the course of one academic year to reach learning and administrative goals while also having access to increased support and resources from the Mentorship Program.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 academic year for both potential mentors and mentees. The deadline for applications is August 14th, 2016 and applicants will get notified of their match by August 26th.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mentorship Coordinator at: AUCCCOMentorshipProgram@gmail.com

Mentorship Program Information and Guidelines

-Both mentors and mentees must be AUCCCO members

-Mentees will be paired with another outreach coordinator for consultation and guidance for 1 academic year.

-Mentorship pairs can select a specific emphasis area to focus on throughout the year.

-Mentorship pairs are encouraged to set goals for the academic year. This may include completing a project or developing a program at your place of work. The mentorship relationship can help with both guidance and accountability.

-We ask that Mentorship pairs commit to at least 1 phone or Skype call per semester at a minimum and also communicate through email or other means as needed throughout the year. We also recommend an initial call before the academic year starts to talk about needs, set goals, and talk about hopes for the mentorship relationship.

-The Mentorship Program facilitators may also offer conference calls, email support, and other resources for everyone in the mentoring program surrounding topics of interest for the group or as needs arise.

-We encourage Mentorship pairs to consider reconnecting at the AUCCCO conference and/or submitting a proposal to present together!

Here’s what current Mentees and Mentors are saying about the AUCCCO Mentorship Program!

“The match was amazingly perfect! It was great to get a new perspective of someone who isn’t at my institution but understand the university dynamics.”

“I have enjoyed having someone with more experience than me in able to provide feedback and advice in a constructive manner. Since most counseling centers only have one person in outreach positions, this is very helpful. The enthusiasm and knowing someone has already done what you are trying to do at your center also helps.”

“I have enjoyed the opportunity to talk with someone who has already been doing outreach for several years. I have learned so much, gotten great perspective, and felt very supported. I am very happy with the mentor I got matched with!”

“I have learned a lot from my mentee, gotten to know some details about the inner workings of another center, which is very interesting.”
